Preparation for GCSE and A-level Exams

Russian Language Centre provides three levels of service:

  • We help prepare students for GCSE or A-Levels on a one-to-one basis. Students may be studying at school or another centre and require extra support. Or they may be preparing for an exam and need regular support classes. We are familiar with GCSE and A level syllabuses and exam formats can help students pass all four exam units.
  • We can arrange the exams for students as private candidates. This means that students do not need to study with us to have us arrange an official GCSE or A level examination. Students may have been learning Russian elsewhere but are now looking to achieve a recognised qualification; we can set up speaking, listening, reading and writing assessments.
  • If a student already has the written part of the GCSE or A-levels organised by a school or learning centre, but needs an examiner for the Oral part of the exam, we can arrange for qualified examiners to travel to their school.

FAQ:

It depends a lot on motivation and ability. On average to get from the complete beginner stage to GCSE level we would suggest at least 80 hrs of lessons, plus few hours a week for self-study at home. A-Levels will require more hours

Yes, we have many past exam papers including listening tasks and questions for the Oral part of the exam.

It's not so much a question about how much TIME spent doing the homework but how effective the self-study is. Students should aim to learn at least 20 new words a week, complete all the exercises that teacher gives, read for pleasure with a dictionary, watch films in Russian and generally try to speak Russian as much as possible outside of the classroom.

Yes, you can. You can take a GCSE as an external candidate. You'll need to travel to the centre for all four Units. Reading and Writing Units will be on the same day.

We use 'Novaya Iskra' series, which you can purchase prior to the course.

We use Edexcel examination board this is also known as Pearson Edexcel - London Examinations.

  • A single tier of entry with assessments graded from G to A*
  • 100% Edexcel-marked
  • Choice of speaking and writing themes, so students can focus on topics that interest them
  • Prepares students for studying A level Russian.
  • AQA is more portfolio based.
